North York Synagogue Shooting Investigation: Police Probe Hate-Motivated Attack Using Replica Firearm

Authorities in Toronto are investigating a suspected hate-motivated incident after three people were shot at outside a North York synagogue on Thursday night, raising serious concerns about community safety and rising targeted threats in the city.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. outside the Chasidei Bobov synagogue in North York, where three individuals were standing when they were allegedly targeted with a replica firearm. According to police, one person sustained minor injuries after being struck by a projectile fired from the weapon.

The Toronto Police Service confirmed that the weapon used was not a real firearm but emphasized that the act still caused fear and disruption within the community. In a public update, police stated that “using any type of firearm, real or replica, to terrify a community is criminal,” and confirmed that the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.

Officials also noted that this is the second similar incident in Toronto in just over a week, prompting heightened concern among residents and community leaders.

Investigators are currently reviewing evidence and speaking with witnesses in the area. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The synagogue community has not yet released a formal statement, but local leaders have expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such targeted incidents.

As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to increase patrols in sensitive community areas while working to determine the motive and identify those responsible.
